Fallen

I had to drive into town this morning, as the MOT on D's car was overdue. He was about to cycle in as usual when he discovered that his bike had a puncture. So he took my car and I took the wheel off his bike. It's a long walk from Bridge End Garage to College via Halfords, but fortunately it was a beautiful morning. I got waylaid taking photos in Troqueer Cemetery, tempted in by these fallen leaves under a cherry tree.
In the cemetery I noticed a row of wreaths in the colours of the Norwegian flag. These were laid at a special service on Sunday as part of an annual commemoration of the Norwegians who lived in Dumfries during World War Two. When Norway was occupied, the town played host to the exiled Norwegian army, most of whom were billeted in nearby Troqueer Mills. Many settled in the area and the connection between Dumfries and Norway remains strong to this day.
