Stonechat

We had a ridiculous sunset tonight. If I put up an image no-one would believe the coloursand I've been giving sunsets a big press recently so I've stuck to a bit of ornithological interest.
There was no wind and so I was able to open my nets and ring birds -well two Stonechats in total in four hours of trying.
That said they are really pretty and quite subtle birds. Interesting too in that they move about and this one could end up anywhere between here and France this winter. As the year carries on, they will lose the fringes to their feathers and so the heads become blacker and the breast redder by the time they get to the breeding season.
