The Gordon House

The Gordon House, Silverton, Oregon.

We spent a very enjoyable day in Silverton which is about an hour's drive south of Portland. The town is located on Silver Creek and one the central streets, appropriately named N Water Street, runs along the creek with the backs of the buildings overlooking the water with pretty balconies and decks. After a very hearty lunch we checked out the town which is home to many murals (they have a mural society) including an oversized replica of Norman Rockwell's Four Freedoms, we also found a mural celebrating Silverton born astronaut, Don Pettit, which we thought was the most interesting mural out of them all.

Our next stop was the Gordon House, designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Unfortunately it wasn't open when we got there so we'll have to come back another time to do the tour but we were able to walk all the way around the exterior. The house is located in the Oregon Garden which is an 80-acre botanical garden of which we did a brief walk through as the sun was beginning to set and the temperatures were dropping.
