Nesting Bellbird
What a thrill to be able to photograph this. The neighbours found a native Bellbird building a nest in the ribbonwood tree beside their upstairs deck.
I climbed up on their barbecue table and was able to look directly into the nest. We clipped a few leaves off to get a clear view in, and I was able to shoot from less the a metre away. There is evidently 3 eggs and she has been sitting on them for about a week, so hoping to get a photograph of these when mum is off feeding.
The neighbours will be away next week so guess by the time they get home, the chicks will have hatched.
The bellbird is quite a small bird yet has the most beautiful strong song, and is a real favourite. I blipped one in my Kakabeak bush a few months ago.
