not quite what it seems!
The snow is for real....and the Rail Bridge in the background...but this stone circle in West Lothian was built in 1998 by a farmer's son as a surprise for his father's birthday! However, it was almost undoubtedly inspired by the standing stones of the area and the nearby Cairnpapple Hill, a site that dates back to 3000 BC and was then a place of worship.
It was surprising to see how much snow is still lying in West Lothian. The climb up to Cairnpapple from the grounds of Bangour Hospital well worth it for the views on descent. Apparently on a clear day, from Knock hill, near these stones, you can see as far as Goat Fell in Arran and the Trossachs to the north.
