Poyaday
After an early morning stroll to a hilltop for sunrise, followed by some bird watching in Dunumadawalla forest, we thought we had better try to see a sight or two in Kandy.
Funnily enough, it just so happened to be Il Full Moon Poyaday, a public holiday which celebrates the first Buddhist missionary mission, and involves a huge parade with whipsmen and Kandyan dancers. It was really cool at first, until several dishevelled and extremely unhappy looking elephants were marched past us. We had a sunset to catch anyway so we made our leave at this point.
