There's always a forest...
Realising that time and weather wouldn't permit us to climb Adam's Peak, we opted for a leisurely day in Kandy, en route back to Colombo for our flight to KL.
Somehow we ended up discovering the cheapest and best guesthouse we could possibly have hoped for (Bethel Rest, a lovely family run place which had only been open one month), on the outskirts of the most undisturbed forest we'd seen in Sri Lanka. The jungle south of Kandy is less explored, so doesn't have any fees to enter or rules about hiring guides and jeeps, yet it has leopards, leopard cats, wild boar and all the awesome wildlife you'd expect from the famously expensive Sri Lankan national parks..
So much for the city break!
