Hexham Abbey Northumberland
Made an early start today and headed for Hexham to see the Abbey which dated from 674 AD. Famous for its crypt which dates back to the founding of the Abbey. Originally built to house the relics of St Andrew it is made entirely of Roman stone presumably looted from the nearby Hadrians Wall and other Roman buildings. Some of the stones have Roman inscriptions on them.
