Walk through Blickling Estate
This top left photo, shows the path we took through the woods, and meadows of the Blickling Estate on a glorious sunny morning.
We passed by the Tower, which was built in the 18th century as a grandstand for the steeple chase racecourse. The racecourse is now grass land, and the tower is a holiday cottage! (wouldn't you just love to stay there!)
Bottom left is the ice house, now overgrown, but you can still see inside.Railings prevent you from falling in as it is extremely deep!
Middle photo is the church of St Andrew, dating from the 13th century, but rebuilt in the 19th century.
The last photo is a distant view of the hall.
Blickling Hall was built in the reign of James 1 , on the ruins of the old Boleyn property ( Anne Boleyn lived here)
Built by Sir Henry Hobart, Lord Chief Justice of Common Pleas and 1st Baronet, who bought Blickling from Robert Clere in 1616.
It has been in the care of the National Trust since 1940.
Today the gardens, shop, and cafe were open, unlike when we called with G&J on Wednesday!
Having now rested after the walk, we are off to the bonfire.
They were building it as we passed the village green on our way back.
It is huge!!
Looks like there is going to be a hog roast too!
Just hope the rain that is forecast keeps away until later.
