Breakfast on the train

Entertainingly varied day. Began with the odd experience of being interviewed by another journalist - instead of, more usually, being the one doing the interviewing. It was for a story about the 1985 RAC Rally, and he wanted my memories of covering it for Top Gear Rally Report.

That was back in the days when Britain's round of the world rally championship was staged over four very long days and vast mileage through England, much of Wales and into Scotland. The cars were exciting: Lancia Deltas, MG 6R4s and Audi quattros. When I approached the winner, 'Flying Finn' Henri Toivonen, for a victory interview, he started it by kissing me on both cheeks, all on camera!

At lunchtime today I took a trip to an interesting cafe for a magazine review, and consumed an all-day breakfast with a model train chugging its way beneath the glass-topped table. Unusual! I don't want to steal the magazine's thunder, so will blip more about it when the story appears.

Now it's a TGIF moment, but there's work to finish first. Looking forward to the weekend and some down time. Saturday tomorrow!
