Luxor

I had dreamed of visiting the Valley of the Kings. I had dreamed of seeing the Temples of Karnak.

I've tried booking a Nile Cruise (but it was cancelled on the advice of the Foreign Office).

We made it. Leaving Safaga at 6.10 we arrived after a four hour, strict security, trip.

Four magnificent tombs (no photos allowed). It was so quiet that I walked with a friend into the tomb of Ramses 9 with not a soul in sight. The ultimate tomb invader experience!!!!!

A wonderful lunch. Photo stops. A quick trip to the Luxor Temple and on to Karnak.

Two hours just soaking up the atmosphere. Our lovely tour guide Noha chose the time perfectly. Warm but not searing heat. Few tourists. Light pre sunset bathing the stone in myriad colours. Pure magic.

We boarded the coach for another four and a half hours of checkpoints and fascinating scenes (kids so unused to tourists waving frenetically). Tiring but magic.

Over 100 photos. But I chose a Nile sunset in Luxor, shot from the coach. Serendipity.

PS. Apologies for the slow blips and few comments. The Internet is working again - just in time to tell me the latest score as Brentford stuff Forest :-(
