Too Soon
Sunday afternoon was spent, for my family, doing yard work. I didn’t mind, not really. I love being outside no matter what it is that I’m doing. I’ve just always felt more at home when I’m outside, breathing in fresh air. So on Sunday, when my Mom told me that we were doing yard work, I didn’t complain that much. It was a nice day, sunny and not too cold. So we raked the leaves, cleaned up random stuff around the yard, helped my dad after he cut the side of his finger off (don’t worry, he’s okay), carried things to the dumpster, made a leaf pile that was at just the perfect distance from the swing set that you could jump off mid-swing and, if you go the timing right, land in the fluffy, cushioned leaves. You know, the usual yard work. Well after it was all done, we were playing baseball in the backyard and I realized that it was November. November! Where did the time go? The sun is soon going to leave us. Too soon the gray clouds of winter will swallow up the shining sun, taking its warmth, and we will be left with the depressing monochromatic atmosphere of the winter months. It will be dark by five o’clock, too cold to go outside, and we will be stuck at home, inside, in the dark. Well I suppose we have lights and what not, but still, the natural sunlight that we are currently taking advantage of is slowly diminishing! The days are getting rapidly shorter, and colder, although that seems to be fluctuating a lot lately. So I took a picture of the sun, and I might take a few more, and set them as my phone background to remind me that I was there, I seen the sun, and it will always return. It will not go away forever, and now I wait for December 21, the time when the days will start getting longer again, giving me summer back.
