118th RAC London to Brighton Car Run

Well, they don't make cars like this anymore! This is one of 500 cars that are taking part in tis historic run which first started on a wet Saturday in November 1896. It was chucking it down today but the drivers and their passengers didn't seem in the least concerned. This is taken at the half way point in Crawley where traffic has come to standstill to let these beautiful legends of the road pass.
The original "Emancipation Run" was a celebration of the of the speed limit being increased from 4 to 14 mph. The event started with a breakfast at the Charing Cross Hotel and the symbolic tearing in two by Lord Winchelsea of a red flag. Today this was performed by Sir Steve Redgrave, Sir Ben Ainslie and Sir Paul Hollywood. Just exactly they have to do with veteran cars is a mystery but one of them is pretty good eye candy!
As for the cars they were good to see but I prefer my air con, heated seats and windscreen wipers!
PS I can't get the theme of that wonderful old film 'Genevieve' out of mind! Worth watching anytime!
