Acropolis

We ascended the Acropolis via the North Slope, went up to the Parthenon, which is every bit as spectacular as I remember it from 20 years ago and significantly less smog-shrouded, and then came down the other side to the new Parthenon Museum. The museum is fabulous; the building itself, with it's long open galleries and offset top floor providing a perfect panorama back up the Hill, is as interesting and beautiful as it's exhibits. We also managed, totally by accident, to get our timings just right to stay ahead of the worst of the crowds. Afterwards we had a wander down to Hadrian's Arch and the Temple of Olympian Zeus and then came back over via the Pnyx on Fillopappos Hill, with it's great views back down the North Slope over the Ancient Agora and the Temple of Hephaestus. Later on we found a nice local taverna, just beyond the Square full of dopers (actually more kind of boho than all-out threatening once you've got your bearings), where we sampled the requisite moussaka and souvlaki to send us back to our Hotel replete as well as foot-sore.
