Artist at work
Friday
We spent today at the National Gallery. I had never been before, so I wanted to see as much as possible. It was a grey drizzly day outside, so it was a good way to spend the day anyway! We came across a couple of artists making copies of pieces of art. We had seen in the Constable exhibition yesterday how artists back then would learn by copying works of the masters, and I guess the same holds true today. Both of the ones we saw were wonderful reproductions. This particular painting is "Flowers in a Terracotta Vase", by Jan van Huysum (1682-1749). I would perhaps have taken a shot of the outside or Trafalgar Square for my blip, but virtually the whole square was barricaded off for a NFL fan party tomorrow, leading up to the NFL International Series game between the Detroit Lions and the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. We left the gallery late afternoon to go back to the hotel and change before going out to see Miss Saigon in the evening - another great evening out!
