A Void!
This is where my television should be. The unit I made especially for the TV, DVD recorder, CDS player and the amplifier together with upper shelves for CD's and a few books.
Last night however the screen was black but I did have sound and could change channels - similar when I turned on the DVD player. Upon further investigation with a torch I could see the picture sort of behind the blackness. I understand that what has caused this is a failure of the backlight which powers the LCD screen.
I have taken it to a chap who tells me that it could be one of three things - the power supply to the inverter board is faulty or the board itself is at fault or the tubes which provide the light have failed. If it is the latter then a new screen would be needed as they are built in and a new TV would cheaper.
I have a 50/50 chance of it being the power supply/inverter board.
I feel lost without it as I usually watch things which I have recorded as most of what is on is such rubbish. So it will be back to the small MacBook Air should there be anything worth watching for the next few days!
