Gazing benevolently
After a very depressing day at work, the weather wasn't a great deal better when I left, so I made a stop at Warnham Church and took a selection of pictures and this seemed to be an interesting memorial.
It is high up on the south wall of the chancel and is to Charles Thomas Lucas (1820-1895). The Lucas Family were great benefactors to the parish and this very Victorian Gentleman provided the means for the enlargement and restoration of the church. The only down side of the restoration is that few genuine medieval features are left, but the work was carried out to a high standard. C T Lucas lived at Warnham Court and there is an interesting memorial to his son, Frederick Murray Lucas who died of Cholera in India in 1887. He was in India tiger shooting whilst on his way to Australia to play an early test match with W G Grace. The beard you can see is very typically Victorian and the memorial has a range of colours in the marble.
