Zwartbles
I went out to Deerness and got a bit of a soaking, but not as bad as last time. The name 'Deerness', if I remember correctly, is from the Old Norse and means 'dry headland', but I think it is time to rename it.
The birds tend to keep their heads down in such rain. Redwings were along the road and what I thought was a hen harrier was on a distant fencepost. Later, at home, a grainy photo showed that it was actually a peregrine. Goldcrests were in a couple of bushy areas, but birds of the day were the seven snow buntings on Mull Head.
Near the bus stop a small flock of zwartbles sheep ran up to the fence to say hello in Dutch.
