"Take off your sandals..........
...........for the place where you are standing is holy ground." God to Moses as written in Exodus 3: 1-6
I was in Hexham twice today. This morning Mum had a hearing test. The good news is that her hearing has not deteriorated since the last test. Tweaks to the hearing aids were again made.
This afternoon, I was in town again for a haircut. On my way back to the car I called into the Abbey to see an arts installation called "Take off your shoes". A large circular cream mat is laid on the floor and on it are a number of pairs of very different shoes. The pairs have been donated by Christians from around the world who have very different stories to tell about their faith. In the centre is a metal sculpture to represent the burning bush. Coloured lights on this change regularly.
The accounts of the owners are placed around the circle. They are on A4 laminated sheets and stuck to the ground. It was interesting to see how people tried to cope with reading them, because the text is small and a lot of bending was necessary. Most people gave up, until we found booklets of the text to read instead!!
You see here the only pair of baby shoes. I think the owner was a child in Nazi Germany whose parents rescued Jews. The out of focus bokeh is from the sculpture of the burning bush.
