Viviendo Descimus
This is the latest paper sculpture by the now famous but anonymous artist and donated to Riddle's Court in appreciation for their 'work with words, idea and books' and for their intention to revamp the old 16th century building into a state of the art learning centre, incorporating a library dedicated to the works of Patrick Geddes the 19th century philosopher.
It is a model of the building with the tree of learning emerging from the top and three birds flying above, emblems of Geddes, symbolising his philosophy of synthesis, synergy and sympathy, and including the words Viviendo Descimus - by living, we learn.
This anonymous artist has donated several of these tiny paper sculptures to places like the Scottish Poetry Library, the National Museum and the National Library of Scotland, and they seem to appear out of the blue, no one knowing who she or he is.
