Porta Nuova
Today we took the bus to Verona. we were surprised how cheap it was, only €3.50 for a journey of about 24 miles. It took a little over an hour on the bus as the route passes through several towns and villages on the way.
The photo shows the "New Gate" near the main railway and bus station. This was built between 1532 and 1540 forming part of the defences of the city and is situated close to the existing city walls.
It was a longish walk from the bus station to Piazza Bra where the arena is situated. The walk ensured we again comfortably exceeded our 10,000 paces for the day. We are doing well this week since we arrived at Lake Garda. We had a walk around the historic centre of the town seeing several Roman remains and passed in front of the House of Juliet, but did not stop there.
Arrived back at Colombare in time for an aperitivo before dinner.
