Mollie
When I set out on this Blip journey I would never have guessed that my Nan's Cat would feature not once but twice inside the first 300 Blips. Obviously she's adorable - I've never met such an affectionate feline before - but equally obvious is the fact that she is a stopping gap to the Blip I don't feel I can make. My Nan would never understand Blip & shouldn't be on here without knowing.
Mollie turns up often as my trips to Norfolk are getting more frequent. I could say by necessity - but its me they're necessary for. Nan whilst physically astounding is mentally deteriorating at an alarming rate and I've become acutely aware of the need to spend quality time with her, to enjoy these moments, whilst they're, well, enjoyable.
On each visit she amazes me with how strong her frail little body is - four months after breaking her hip she's wandering out into the garden on her zimmer frame to harvest potatoes & beans for supper - but equally she also forgets to cook that supper when the time arrives. Whilst the body is strong the mind is slowly losing its grip on control.
The carers who come in are great & I know that she's looked after & does get at least two meals a day - but our conversations now have to be in the moment.
Heartbreakingly on this trip she kept asking me how my Mum was - I see no sense at all in her being upset time after time - telling her would be like telling her for the first time - again & again - so I just smile & tell her Mum is fine, she smiles back & is happy. & for now that's enough.
