Last bask

I think this must be one of the latest butterflies I've seen. Walking Pippa by the canal this morning there didn't seem much left of summer. Still plenty of leaf on the trees but the damsel flies and dragonflies have all gone. Then, later, in the garden, in the sun, I saw this red admiral feeding on the ivy flowers before finding somewhere to hibernate over the winter. It looked in good shape. What a year it's been for butterflies.
