Mount Athos

We arrived in the morning mist just before seven and cruised until 9.30.

Hauntingly beautiful, but not perfect for photos and this detail of one of the 20 monasteries was the clearest but gives no idea of the aetherial qualities.

It is known in Greek as the holy mountain. Only males are permitted and that applies to farm animals too.

Mist, and smoke which seemed to have the scent of incense. High and isolated buildings, some like castles. Even solar panels.

I'll never forget this experience.
