Where's Monty Don...

...when you need him?  

I found this at the foot of a small tree in the supermarket car park. I've no idea what it is but I thought that it was fascinating and would make a good blip. Any gardeners out there that can enlighten us? It's about 4 inches across, if that helps.

It's rained again all day and the garden is looking very soggy. I've got loads of plants to get in but I can't face it, so hopefully it will clear towards the weekend.

At least the bad weather has allowed me to clear more things out of the loft.
