Bassenthwaite Lake and the Derwent River valley.

After visiting Castlehead first thing this morning and missing the footpath to the foreshore on the descent, we decided to cut our losses and return to LC'c cottage and have an early lunch.

After this sojourn we went for a drive so headed south on the B5289 to the Honister Pass road and followed that to the slate mines. Was this where TP an LC completed their Via Ferrata adventure? It certainly looked good fun but they wouldn't let us on with two dogs .

It was an interesting hour and we continued on past Buttermere and Crummock Water following the road to Whinlatter Pass where we stopped and I took this shot.

No sooner had I taken this picture than, what I took to be an RAF Tornado, flew at low level over Keswick area and up Bassenthwaite making any conversation impossible.

This was very impressive but only lasted a few seconds.
