Face on the Font

Another absolutely revolting day weatherwise. There was little chance of any pictures outside as it has been raining on and off all day. I noted last week anything inside Itchingfield Church that might make a good subject for here and this is one of them.

The font in the church is 15th Century and is octagonal. Each side has a quatrefoil with a carved design in the centre and this one seems to be a Green Man which is a common feature in medieval carving. Whatever he is, it is certainly a very interesting carving. Being white limestone, it is not easy to photograph as the flash tends to whiten it out.
