Knock Knock

It's migration time. Our neighborhood is teeming with birds of all kinds. I love seeing them dart across the yard. I love hearing their songs fill the air. I love watching them dig bugs out of our Silver Maple. What I don't love is when they try to dig bugs out of our house.

There are at least two of these red-headed woodpeckers moving through the neighborhood right now. Yesterday one alerted his presence by knocking on a cedar shake outside my bathroom window. I shook my broom at him. I've heard you can keep them off your house if you can catch them at it right away and scare them off. Today he returned, but stuck to the silver maple right outside my kitchen window. I think we've reached an understanding.
