The Last Control
A cool and misty morning greeted us as we made our way to assembly. Trying to assess how many layers to wear was the first challenge of the day. The elite competitors had an early start. Many favouring shorts and singlets. I on the other hand had long tights and orienteering top on!
The terrain was a mix of grass, cobbles and Tarmac. It was evident from watching the elite runners that this was a slippery mix and a number experienced slips and tumbles.
The start was at the entrance to Stirling Castle and our first 9 controls were inside the castle. Errors here meant I was wrong footed before running through the streets. The course had a lot of climb and by the end I was struggling to put one foot in front of the other. So I was pleased with a 10th place finish.
A brilliant weekend. Now looking forward to Balmoral next weekend.
This is the last control and one of the elite men finishing.
