Geranium sylvaticum or Wood Crane's bill

We went for a walk in the woods on this beautiful Sunday afternoon and spotted there this flower still very much in bloom. In Finnish the plant is called Metsäkurjenpolvi - directly translated Woodland Crane's Knee (?). It is funny that the names of so many species of plants refer to the crane, I wonder why this is?

The flowers of this plant are a very specific blue that varies from one plant to the other in shade. They flowers yield a blue-gray dye that was used in ancient Europe to dye war cloaks, believing it would protect the warriors in battle. For this reason Wood Crane's bill was also called Odin's Grace.
