The road home
Better in large.
To Salsigne today, for the générale before the first choir concert tomorrow. Salsigne, in the Montagne Noire, was formerly known for its gold mine (yes, really) -- the last one in mainland France, it closed in 2004. Sadly, it's now known as one of the most polluted sites in France, notably by arsenic. There has been a big clean-up operation since the mine closed, but even now, no vegetables grown in the area can be sold for public consumption. No other industry has moved in either, so it's one of the poorest parts of what is already one of the poorest départements in France. The local government's latest wheeze to brighten up life for its inhabitants is to site a massive landfill there. Needless to say, they are delighted.
But if you ignore all that ... it's quite scenic, with wide views across to the Pyrenees (somewhat obscured by clouds here). This is a quick snap on my way home, as the sun was starting to set. Not easy to spot good places for blips while driving -- this was the best I could do.
October word challenge for today: landscape.
