Lych gate

This rather large lych gate is outside the Church of St Mary at South Dalton near Beverley.

The church was rebuilt in the 1860's and the English oak roof in this gateway looks to be the same age. The Victorians paid great attention to detail, the cross beams being inscribed and the whole structure held together with wooden pegs.

Incidentally, the spire of the church is some 200 plus feet high, very pointed and with a definite list to the east!
