Bud Burst
All around Marlborough various varieties of grapes are starting to burst into bud. We are having some frosty nights which make grape growers very nervous. There was a very mild frost this morning, enough for the need for gloves during my early walk. There were frost machines in action further up the Wairau Valley.
There are Sauvignon Blanc grapes growing in the vineyard I walk through on my return journey back to the vehicle. There are tiny delicate buds on some of the canes. They look so delicate with baby-like fuzz on their surfaces. There had been some dew as well as the frost on the ground. There are dewdrops on the little buds. To give an indication of scale a paper tie can be seen on the wire. It is to be hoped that the frost season is coming to an end.
