Lesser Goldfinch

Unfair name for such a lovely bird. I know it is smaller than, and has less yellow coloring than, the American Goldfinch, but really, couldn't the common names reflect the given Latin names?
In Latin the glorious Goldfinch is tagged as "C. tristis" meaning "sad, gloomy, downcast"and the Lesser Goldfinch is called "C. psaltria" meaning "female who plays the lute."
So who's on the short end of the stick now?
