Camping at Loch Etchachan
We walked over from the Cairngorm base station, around Loch Avon (pronounced Aan) with its fabulous granite sand beaches and up to Loch Etchachan which sits surrounded by Munros at an altitude of 900m.
The Loch was completely fogged in and a little breezy but made a wonderfully calming and lonely camp spot during the week. The Ptarmigan were croaking quietly in the mist. Previous campers had left some piled up rocks which were useful for keeping the draft out the back of the tent (put back when I left). We spent 3 days here walking in the surrounding hills.
