Day 2 in the shearing shed
Up early-ish and into the sheds a bit after the shearers had begun their work. And these guys really do work. The whole shed is like a well-oiled machine and ticks along at one hell of a pace. They're an amazing team to watch and I feel very priveledged to have had the opportunity to photograph the characters and workings of the shed at a very up-close-and-personal level.
After we'd finished in the sheds (during which time it even snowed) we headed a bit further up into the hills (now in glorious, warm sunshine) to look at and photograph some of the old huts on the property. The road/track was a bit hairy but the back-country scenery more than made up for it. We were even treated to a bit of wildlife spotting - 2 packs of wild pigs, a deer, hare, rabbits and a bird I'd never heard of, a chukar. Oh - and a few hundred more sheep.
Went to the local pub for a bit of tea before heading out once again. This time it was to a high point on the station in the hope of catching a good sunset. Oh boy! Was it cold up there...and blowing a gale. There was even a loo with a view on the top, but sadly, no sunset worthy of mentioning. Did manage to glimpse another wild pig on the way back down - it ran across the track in front of the vehicle then the silhouette (complete with curly tail) disappeared over the hill into the slightly glowing, inky sky. Such a pity that the image is imprinted only in my memory, not on my camera's sensor :(
Another huge day. We seem to have packed sooooooo much into the less than 36 hours we've been here. No wonder I'm tired.......but I'm loving every minute of it.
G'night
:)
