Mr Merino to you!
A rainy night where the constant fall of rain on the roof didn't feel very relaxing. I woke several times during the night but opted not to get up when I woke at 7.30. Oops! Mistake. With the delays along the way due to roadworks (x2), photostops (x too many), fuel and food (x 1), email/txt checks (x too many), grocery shopping (x 1) and map/gps checking (x too many) it was a wonder I made it to Otematata at all!
When I did finally arrive - around 3.30 - the others on the workshop were already in the woolshed snapping away merrily. We're a group of 5 including 2 other blippers, gingernan and spikes2013 so keep watching here to find out what we do and what we learn over the next 3 days.
Things I've learned so far........
* These sheep are merinos - suppliers of many of those lovely Icebreaker merino garments we love
* Otematata Station runs about 12000 merino
* The Station is about 400 square kilometres, which is about 40,000 hectares or just under 100,000acres. That's a lot of grazing!
Tomorrow we shoot more sheep in the shearing shed.........
