Long day!
Mum and I arrived at 10.30 a.m. Grimly unsmiling staff. No information. And we waited. And waited.
At least the ward was light and airy, with glimpses of blue sky and sunshine.
A nurse in charge began muttering about it getting rather late, so I pleaded with her not to cancel. Eventually Mum was fetched for theatre at 4.30 p.m. And she waited some more though at least the theatre staff were kind and jolly. Op at 5.30 ish. Went OK thank goodness. Mum surprisingly upbeat once she'd woken up from the general (I was quite surprised to be invited into the recovery room), but very bruised around mouth and lips - I expect she will feel sore when the local anaesthetic wears off.
After a period, she was escorted to a 'day ward'. However, it was eventually decided that she is staying in overnight as mouth and tongue swollen and BP rather high.
I set off for her home eventually without her, which was disappointing and sad, but also a bit of a relief. Missed a bus by three minutes, so rather than wait nearly an hour, or hiring a taxi, I caught a bus into town and had a pizza (not my favourite thing but the pizzeria is opposite the right bus stop). However, the next bus was half an hour late! Still, I'm back at Mum's apartment now and heading for bed. I'm going to navigate my way to the hospital tomorrow to fetch her. The map has all the information I need to get around the site - except the post code for the satnav!
I don't think I am grumpy - just a bit over-tired!
Thank you for all the lovely well-wishing for my Mum. She was pleased to be on the receiving end of the kindness of strangers! I will try to catch up with comments when my brain and heart has been rested a bit!
