Canal Serenity

Canals are everywhere in Bangkok. So many that sometimes it is called the 'Venice of the East'. Their concentration is even more obvious in the Old Section at the eastern side of town.
This is inside a lovely wat called the Marble Temple. It was built at the end of the 19th century under the reign of King Rama V. The Marble Temple is built in white marble imported from Carrare in Italy. Hence its nickname. Its Thai name is Wat Benchamabophit.
It is very close to the actual Residence of the Royal Family. The temple is part of a big estate that comprises other buildings, a monastery as well as a famous school.
It rained heavily this afternoon. But in the evening, the sun shone again. And this is when I took this blip strolling along this pleasant canal away from the traffic and the hustle and bustle of city life.
You may see more photos of this temple on my Flickr album Marble Temple, BKK
