Whispering Knights
This monument is called the Whispering Knights; one of three monuments which collectively go under the name of the Rollright Stones being a complex of Bronze Age megaliths. They include a King Stone and a King's Men stone circle which was a gathering place for people in 4,500 years ago.
These natural limestone boulders are the remains of an early Neolithic burial chamber built around 4000BC from stones that were found within 500m of the site. Known as a 'portal dolmen' as there are two massive stones like doorposts with a third stone making a door.
Legend has it that the stones are knights who were turned into stone by a witch for plotting against their king. I would imagine that the whole site would have a great air of mystery surrounding it in different light conditions. There was definitely an air of mystery surrounding some of the people I saw up there today!
