Roman Theatre, Orange

Our trip today took us firstly to Orange to view this marvellous theatre, built by the Romans. It has been well restored and its history is well described in the excellent audio guide . After a short walk to the Triumphal arch we headed back to Vaison stopping off in several wine villages where grape picking is getting underway.
We took in Chateauneuf-du- Pape, which is not the prettiest despite having the most expensive of Rhone wines, Vacqueyras, where we tasted and bought and Gigondas which is beautiful and will possibly be revisited
