Oxford
I was all set to pop up to London today to check out the book benches dotted around the place, until I checked last night and found that they'd all been auctioned off and removed during the week :-(
So instead I went just up the road from my brother's house, where I was yesterday, to Oxford. I've never been before, it wasn't far and they've got a park 'n' ride just off the A40 (I do love easy to find), so win:win!
It's such a pretty place, the University buildings are particularly stunning, all grandiose sand-coloured stone. I've seen the Bodleian Library, Brasenose College, the Sheldonian Theatre, the University Church of St Mary, the Examination Schools and lots of other beautiful places, and there's lots I missed too. Also picked up a few cute bits in a little shop called Aspire, and I climbed the 99 (felt more like 999) steps of Carfax Tower to look over Matthew Arnold's "City of Dreaming Spires".
The drive home from there was 3 hours of tedium, but I've had a little nap and feel much better. Little brum-brum has done very well taking me 530 miles this weekend trouble free, and deserves a rest!
