Aglais Urticae

Chill-out Sunday. Brunch with son and daughter-in-law, hearing about the progress of their moving plans. Then a relaxed catch-up at home, both indoors and out.

It still feels quite summery, but there is a nip in the air. This visitor, which came flapping in through an open window, is probably one of the last butterflies we will see this year. The Small Tortoiseshell is thought to be in decline in Southern England, so we were particularly pleased to see this one. First identified as far back at 1758, it is officially known as Aglais Urticae.
