Growing old disgracefully

RAILWAY CHILDREN

Staying in an old railway station on the Wensleydale Railway this week. The trains don't stop, but we rush out onto the platform every time one passes to wave. I long to paint one of the bed sheets with the words, 'Look out at the station!' and take off my red flannel petticoat to wave at the engine driver.

We are just on the edge of the Dales - peaceful pastoral scenery, two excellent friends, several bottles of wine and a stack of books. Just what the doctor ordered.
