Gettysburg 150th

As a reenactor, I have many opportunities to do some awesome things. Last year I had the chance to participate in the 150th Gettysburg reenactment. Most of the time during the event we were doing something, and we barely had any down time to cool off. This event had more of our unit members show up than any other event. We had enough people to crew four cannons, but we only took three out onto the field, giving us a chance to do some cool things that we usually do not get to do. This picture is from the battle of the Wheatfield, where I was in the rear carrying wounded. Usually we do not have enough people to even have wounded, let alone have someone to carry them. This gave me a chance to take some pictures and enjoy the battle almost as a spectator (well, one with a wool coat). The reenactment was huge, with about 50,000 reenactors, 1,500 horses, 160 cannons, and many, many tents. I really enjoy this picture because it shows just how much smoke can be produced during a battle. There were times where we could not even see what was going on. By the end of the battle, I was placed on the gun because we finally ran out of reserves. It will definitely be a week that I will never forget.
