The 'new' road to Sapa...
We had a lovely night in a new home stay in Ta Phin, and just before heading off on the motorbikes, the 'Dad' said why don't you take the new road back to Sapa? Wanting to mix things up, we jumped at the idea of his new route and road. We'd done the 'old' one a few times and it was pretty precarious anyway. So we followed his directions; 1km up the road, turn left, follow the little narrow road as it heads down to cross a swing bridge. Cross the bridge, and after that it opens up to a nice road, 16km later you'll reach the main road. He did said, if you meet any locals and they tell you to turn back, ignore them, carry on, it hasn't rained in a while (2 days) so it good to go. Maybe... maybe this was the time to think twice.
But, he was right, after the bridge and 14km of mud track later it opened up to a lovely concrete road, 2 km before we met the main one!
It was quite the adventure, although more than anything we were full of nerves. After so long, we didn't have the option of turning back, it was just a tricky to go back as it would to go forward. We had know idea if it was going to get worse, or if we were ever going to find the main road. But our granny scooter did us proud, swerving around corners, Henry managed to keep it upright. Just....
