Ta Phin village to....

Probably one of the best day walks we've done in South East Asia. Before we left our base at the Ta Phin Stone Garden home stay, the 'Dad' mention we may need a guide. He was right, we certainly did... not that he knew the way, but the ex-military chap who led us down the valley spoke perfect Vietnamese, so he just chatted with the locals and after a few miss turnings, we found our way. Apparently he did the walk several times a month, but he was chewing on a lot of the vegetation along the way, mentioning that's all they ate in the war, and I'm not sure how that all might have affected him and his memory. I use the 'route' in the loosest term, we walked through peoples homes, gardens, along aqueducts and many, many rice terrace walls in search for the 'route'. But maybe there wasn't one, and that's the most enjoyable thing. We made it safely home, with the knowledge that after fighting for the Vietnamese for 15 years, our guide had earnt 20 million dong, only needing to borrow a further 15 million dong to afford a motorcycle.
