Green Burial

I knew we'd be going to a related movie tonight, so I swung in to a local country cemetery for this shot. We tramped on up to Portland to take in the documentary A Will For the Woods at the Clinton Street Theater. This movie is all about the green burial movement. It follows a man who has been diagnosed with lymphoma, and he and his wife's decision to follow the tradition of a green burial - no embalming, simple wooden casket. It's a tough movie, no doubt, but it deals with a subject we're all going to face. I liked its honesty and candor, even though the ending is predictable. The best line of the movie is when a couple looks at an acreage designated as a green burial location. The lady says, "This place reminds me more of life than of death."

Oh yeah, the grave on the left, the big tall one, the resting place of the bones of Christopher Zumwalt, August 12, 1827 - June 6, 1900.

Here's a link to the trailer for A Will For the Woods. I love documentaries.
