Too Good To Waste

I got off a little early today. It was a very productive day and I felt like celebrating. I did a few clean up chores around the house, turned on the spa to heat and started lighting a fire on the upper deck. I poured myself an adult beverage, one for Peggy and went up on the deck to check on my fire and wait for Peggy before the sunset. I didn't know that Peggy was taking a friend for a plane ride so she missed the beautiful sunset. The fire was just smoldering and I was getting bummed. Peg finally came home and we had a brief happy hour in the spa but needed to get out quick to see the Olympic Opening Ceremonies. Still no fire...just smoldering wet firewood. Peggy fixed some dinner and we were watching the Olympic festivities when I saw a bright light coming from the patio. My fire had finally taken off into a glorious blaze. Peggy was doing some reading and watching the ceremonies and I said that I've waited so long for that fire to catch on and I just can't waste it. I grabbed a bottle of wine, a good cigar and headed up to the roof-top deck.

Made a phone call to my sister and one to an old high school buddy and just watched the fire until it turned to glowing embers and grew dark.
