Aubeterre chapel

On this LPBV tour, it has been Tricia that has always dragged me into chapels to look at them - or leave me outside kicking my heels This one however is special, one of two chapels in France that are cut into the rock. How the builders managed not to take out a crucial rock at some stage in the building process leaving the whole thing intact remains a mystery.
Built to benefit from the first tourists, the passing pilgrims on the San Compostella trail. This is the graveyard cut into the rock at the entrance to the chapel. Now it benefits from a more modern day pilgrim - amongst them the British folk that are forming an increasingly large part of the local community.
Lunch in a small, very French restaurant serving excellent local fare and civilized apero drinks by the Dronne before kedgeree chez Tricia's cousins made for a good day. It can only be in the anglicised excesses of SW France that you could get le smoked haddock.!
